Have you tried emailing the Curly Girl author? If you're still by a major city she may be able to recommend someone. Otherwise you could just ask everyone curly haired woman with a decent hair cut.

ORIGINAL: christsstar What about hair? What do y'all do to your hair??? I find it uncomfortable to stand in front of a mirror trying to do my hair. But I do it every day so I look presentable. I hate drying it; I hate styling it; I try to find all the shortcuts and simple solutions with every hairstyle. To be honest, I miss my towel dry and throw gel in it curly hair. But the length was annoying me so I cut it recently. Trite as it sounds I've found it really does start with a very good haircut. So I've learned not to scrimp on getting my haircut. I will pay big bucks to someone who really knows what they're doing; it saves so much time and money later. 'Cause frankly I'm terrible with hair. I HATE fixing my hair. Thankfully I have a long layer that works great, but it took me a while to find what I like and someone I like to do my hair. The end result is I need little or no styling and it usually looks good. I also keep some gel just in case I'm in a humid climate because my hair is like a sponge and will tend to kink up in a humid climate. But for years I heard that my hair was hard to style because I just had hair that needed lots of styling. I don't buy that garbage anymore. Either it's cut right so I don't have to spend a lot of time on it or it's not. That simple. I hear that from so many people. And I do notice a difference when I pay for a good haircut. I'm also really bad with hair. I think part of my being bad with hair is not knowing what looks good and how to explain to a stylist what I want. I don't think I like my new haircut. I can't get it to do what I want. But I've received several compliments. So I don't know if people are being nice, or if they really mean it. I have also yet to find someone who cuts curly hair really well. I want to see the lady who wrote my curly hair book. But she lives in NY and probably costs a fortune. I'm not going to sugar coat it. It is a pain to find a stylist who understands, but when you do, oh, it makes so much difference.

Years ago I got my hair trimmed like every 4-5 weeks because my hair grows super fast. Like an inch+ a month. It's a curse. Today, I only get it cut four times a year at most. If I have a good cut, it grows out well so I don't have to worry about it. I know it's a hassle to call people but if you ever get a good stylist who knows how to cut it and ALSO teach you about how to deal with your hair, it's worth it. BTW, I hope it's clear I don't believe that paying big bucks guarantees a good cut. I've paid for a few high dollar jobs that were awful. The lady I go to now only charges me 22.50 to cut my hair, but I tip her another $25. She is that good, and she'll get me in at the drop of a hat.

I used to wear heels that were 3"-4" high. Then one day I decided that at 5'7" I really don't need to be any taller. I stopped wearing them and my feet stopped bothering me.

ORIGINAL: karlie I loooove heels and cute strappy heeled sandals when the outfit/occasion calls for them. Even though they are not as comfortable as other shoes I own, I will wear them if they are what sets my outfit off nicely and it's for a limited time. But, I don't wear them for all day or for events, or when I have to do a lot of walking...those kinds of shoes were never intended for that.[/font] Karlie pretty much said what I do too. I will wear my strappy sandals all day to events because they are all very comfortable. I have one pair of heels that are comfortable enough to wear all day but not any of the others in my collection.

I did find several that claimed "natural" but just had a natural ingredient or two.... Not my idea of natural.

I used to always go braless at home (even with a F cup ) but once the kids got up a little older I started to get uncomfortable with it, so now I have two "leisure bras" that I wear at home. I take them off for bed though. Have never worn heels and never will. I do have a nice pair of dress shoes that have probably a 1" lift to the back of them, but it covers so much area I don't consider it a heel. I wear them to church in the cold weather months, and my Earth Shoe sandals in the warm months. Haven't worn pantyhose in several years and probably never will again (I don't wear dresses, and if I need the look of hose under my pants I wear trouser socks). I wear makeup to church (powder foundation, eyeshadow and liner, blush) and very light makeup to go out to the store and stuff like that, none at home unless I'm experimenting with colors and want to see how I like it as the day goes on. Except for church and the rare date with hubby, I keep my hair in a braid. Don't wear any jewelry anymore, I let my ears close up when my oldest was born because she kept pulling on them. Necklaces irritate my neck, rings and bracelets get on my nerves. My wedding ring is a tattoo. If my clothing is not comfortable and I don't think it looks good on me, I do not wear it. Period.

I basically live in jeans and semi-casual shirts with tennis shoes. I work with kids and am either in the car or down on the floor all day (and have been known to come home with puke or spaghetti or something like that on me). For a while I was trying to wear long skirts a few times a week, but I gave it up when I got tired of shaving my legs all the time. I've been trying to get some nicer shirts and have been picking things up on sale here or there, but lots of things don't seem to fit right. The only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring, and the only makeup I wear is occasional cover-up. I'm a small A cup, but I do wear a bra whenever I'm dressed- otherwise I have headlight issues. My hair is long, fine, and straight, and I HATE having it messed with by anyone. When I taught special ed I kept it in a low ponytail with a barrette so that it was a smaller target. Now I just leave it long and loose. I've only ever had one haircut in my life that I liked, and I don't have any good pictures of it. Right now my goal is to grow my hair down to my waist (its finally just past my braline in the back). Partly because the only person I trust to do my hair lives 3000 miles away- whenever we end up flying back to MI to see family, I'll probably make an appointment to have my hair cut.

Yes I will sacrifice comfort for beauty. I wear make-up everyday, and try not to leave home without it. I try to look good each day for me, even if I am not going anywhere. I do my hair, and wear jewlry too. I do wear heels and on occassion I wear nylons if necessary. I wear a bra each day till night time, and I even wear one of those tummer tuck things around my tummy because I am trying to lose weight. I feel weird without it and self conscious. I dont mind if things are a little uncomftorable. I always want to look my best and God actually convicted me in this area. I use to be sort of a slob with my appearance and came to hate the way I looked. Now with Gods help I have done a complete 180 and love the new improved me. I think its important that we represent God well. I know that some people have kids and what not so its hard, but I think we really do represent Him so we should be sentitive in this area.

I see your point WhiteRoseBlessings. Maybe I should have been more careful of how I phrased my comment. =) Let me try again. I guess for me its a totally different ball game becasue I have had major depression twice in my lifetime and both those times I felt beaten down and had a hard time in the area of appearance. I kind of let myself go because I felt so awful inside all the time. I would not wear make-up and just wore sweats. Well God got a hold of me and turned things around for me. Before I had depression I would wear casual clothing. During the depression I was a total mess. After God got a hold of me I came out on the other end looking totally transformed. For this I am thankful for. I look better now after all that than I did before hand..I feel good most of the days and me dressing well each day is a victory and a truimph. I like it now. Its sort of a hit to the enemy who almost got me, had it not been for Gods hand. I take extra care because I can now, and because thats how I feel inside. Its just me though and my story.......=)

I wear high heels but not for beauty. I don't know why, but for some reason I feel powerful when I wear them.
