ORIGINAL: Covaan_Meshuga PaleHawkWoman, I was looking through a catalog of such clothing, and I was amazed at the modesty displayed in them! Loved it! I would love to pick up some items from them, and I am completely enamored with '40 styles. I feel too fat to wear them, however. What catalog is that? Thanks.

Please forgive me for not answering! My computer at home is down, and I must use the one at work. I keep forgetting to get the name of the catalog!

If you look, you can find them. Anyplace you shop will have both modest and not so modest. I have an easy time as long as I stay out of the JRs section.

Honey, they would put up a sign if I tried to go into the juniors' department: "No Whaling in This Area." Then they'd call security and the police. Actually, I keep forgetting that I have lost weight, but I sure am not a junior! You cute little petite people. BLEHHHH!

You're welcome pianolover! Thanks so much again ladies for the advice. I wanted to say that I was able to "test" some of the advice I received on a couple of situations that happened over the course of the last couple weeks. I decided to--albeit painfully-- end the friendship between the girl I spoke about in this thread, who I'll refer to as "Jane". I decided that if I wanted to go to the mall, I was always going to be comfortable and not have to worry about getting looked at like meat anymore. There was an outdoor activity going on in the sculpture art park in a city near where I live and I invited her. It actually didn't get that cold on Saturday, but I still dressed warm and expected to see her there. She shows up in a low-cut keyhole-style sweater in weather that was like, 28 degrees!! No coat, no scarf, and all she had on where mittens and a hat! I quickly took her aside and explained to her calmly and politely that this was a family event and young children were going to be with their parents in the park as well, and I had an extra sweater that would still look nice on her in the car. Of course, she took offense but I didn't explain myself anymore-- I simple said "Look (her name), unless you can present yourself appropriately with the way you dress, I can't hang out with you. I'm sorry, but I can't be identified with someone who doesn't want people to know more about her than her boobs." I'm pretty sure I shocked her, because she walked away and even blocked me on facebook and bebo, blocked me from her email and her cellphone. The other situation could have also ended disastrously but was averted instead. I was invited to go to a bar and when I declined and was asked why, I simply repeated myself. So I was asked "well what do you want to do?" I mentioned there was a restaurant in downtown that does latin dancing on the weekends, and we could do that instead. "whatever, you could do that at the bar too. See you later." It's really hard to hold your ground, and even harder to lose friends.

lea84 - when you prune branches, the flowers always come out more beautiful and usually more numerous. Thank you for your stand.

When I was in high school, I was very rarely asked out. I was told I was very attractive (one of the prettiest girls in school so I was told), but the guys knew I didn't put out so that deterred them from asking me out. I figured that was no loss. It was pretty much the same way in college although I plugged into more Christians and met Christian guys who respected my boundaries. I'm now married to a great guy who respected me. LOL! This sounds like me! Only I wish I would have figured out sooner that it was no loss to me, would have saved me a lot of worries! I have met a few guys though who are truly gentleman and respect my values now that I'm in college and one day, I'm sure God will bring me the right one to marry!

I wasn't asked out in high school either. I don't know if it was because they guys were afraid of me (used to beat the stuffing out of them in grade school) or I wasn't conventionally attractive- didn't wear make-up, didn't style my hair(this was the Farah Fawcette days), wore jeans and tees mostly, or because I refused to play dumb in class. I went swimming in a t-shirt and shorts as I didn't have a bathing suit and couldn't find one I felt comfortable wearing. I never wore heels either. My mother was often exasperated by my lack of fashion sense and bemoaned my lack of a "social life" as well. Yeah, I'm glad she was Miss Social Butterfly in High School and always stylin' but I wasn't her. I had friends, and did things I liked to do. She still thinks I should do more to show off my "cute little figure". Hey, I'm married, so its not like I'm looking for male attention other than my husband's and I have NO problem there. I'm 48, have kids and grandkids and will not try to dress like I'm auditioning for Coyote Ugly or like I'm a teeny-bopper. But even when I was 20 and single, I dressed modestly because it was my style and I've always been the "natural" girl.

Lea- I am so proud of you for kindly trying to help your friends and sticking to your guns. I'm also sorry that this is so painful. It's really hard to lose friends.

Don't even worry about being pleasing to women; whatever you do, will be wrong. I think you sound refreshingly decent! They're just bothered because they know they come off like a cheap skank, next to a nice, decent girl like yourself....
