I graduated from HS in 1970. One of our textbooks declared the world would be completely out of crude oil in 30 years. But that wasn't a big concern because the Darby-eschatologists told us the rapture would occur no later than 1974. Then it was no later than 1980. Then 1981. Then, absolutely for sure on January 1, 2000.

When I point out the ones who have repeatedly made such failed claims, like Hal Lindsey, they just shrug it off and keep watching and listen to him and them.

I did a book review in my English class on "The Late Great Planet Earth".

I remember that while some people were scared, I was mad at God because He was not going to let me enjoy this life. I thought that was terrible unfair at the time.

Mom and Dad discussing rapture.... seven years after 1948 i was 9.... amazing how we try and put OUR generation into scripture.

I remember the 1000 years one day thing....

Creation to Christ 4000 years Christ to now 2000 .... the next 1000 was to be the milliam....

I don't remember, but I usually did well in English.

I guess they appreciate that fact that we don't hold to the old Testament Idea of killing false prophets...

Oh my! Look at what I was just accused of in the C/A thread!

quote:

Lol, we are going to live in glorious bodies that cannot be destroyed, walk on streets made of pure gold, lions are going to lie with lambs in peace, and you want to use rational thinking?

I asked if this person wants to be irrational.

I knew there was a reason I avoided the C/A threads for years...

I've avoided that thread for 2 or 3 weeks. Mainly because I think I was getting close to getting banned from the forum and that thread isn't worth it.

Another reason is that there are some really odd theologies held there. There's only one person who posts there with, what I'd call, classic Arminian doctrines. Some people's doctrines are so far out and they get so LONG WINDED that I used the RED HAND to eliminate the extra clutter.

Then there are the 2/5, 3/5, and 4/5 Arminians. Debating them is like trying to get a good grip on an eel that's coated with peanut oil. What's remarkable is that they can't see that their doctrines are inconsistent.

Yep, it's 5/5 or 0/5 and nothing in between.

Eels in peanut oil? That sounds like a Thai dish to me. It might leave a bad taste in my mouth, though.

Just a reminder about this folder, from the description:

"Just think of this as the Theology folder coffee shop. You'll find community interaction not of a theological nature."

If you are an adherent or supporter of RT or just want polite, non-confrontational interaction, you are welcome. If you want to debate or criticize, please find a thread designed for such things.

Are your churches having Good Friday services? What do they do for Good Friday?

Our church is going to show the Gospel of John movie. I've purposefully not seen it because, I realize this will sound odd to some people, I just avoid seeing any actor's portrayal of Christ and all He went through on our behalf.

Reading it in God's word, praying about it, and thinking on it are all real enough for me.

Plus, I don't want to see the actor's face whenever I pray.

Have any of you seen the Gospel of John film?

I haven't seen the Gospel of John, but I seem to remember that several members in the old RT highly recommended it.

Husband and I have been asked to sing at the service, and we really love the opportunity, but I don't want to see the film, and neither does he.

Maybe we could slip out for most of the film, but slip back in when we need to sing. !!! That would be kind of rude, I think!

I saw Matthew some years ago and it was really good. I refused to go see the Passion as it seemed wrong to me.
Our church (OPC) is having a combined service with a few other OP smaller ones not sure if we're going yet.

I feel a little out of place. Since we left our last church recently and have yet to find another...not sure where we will go.

It will feel very strange not to go to church on Resurrection Sunday to celebrate...but neither do I want to just open the phone book with my eyes closed and point my finger to choose a church...which is the only way to do it, because I know most of the churches around here, and know the theology doesn't come up to standard.

So I'm not sure what we'll do.

We told him we would pass on this opportunity. We know it is our own hang up.

Shallbe,

I hope you can find a place to attend soon.

There's an article up here about Passover and there are a few things in it that really offend me as a believer. Yes, we need to study the OT, but to have and actual Sadder or to make it a point to have one seems like a slap in the face to God and Our Savior. Am I wrong???

Thanks. I debated whether or not to post about that article, because I'm not as articulate as some up here and don't want to come across as not knowing what I believe.

I think it's a good topic.

It has the opportunity to get a little heated, as some people have very strong opinions on the issue.
