Umm, yeah. I'm sorry, this still does not set my mind at ease about this. A little leaven still has the same effect it always did. Actually i will edit this to say, after reviewing what Warren has said in print and audio, that i cannot imagine what Piper could have been thinking.

There are Christian Ministries that assume everyone has ability to become Christian and act on it. Teen Challenge is an example. I befriended two who started the program and one quit. (A son of a Minister of the Nazarene Church) and another who had little interest in Christianity. The latter was more interested in escaping his legal problems by going through the year + program. Anyways he got the boot and was given a ride to the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter and ceremoniously dumped there. Is this a case of one Ministry dumping on another? He is doing fine now, is working and has his own apartment. Referred to Teen Challenge as Jesus Boot Camp. Had a lot of other things to say which would be inappropriate to repeat here.

Does one have to become Christian in order to complete the program even if you have reservations? His answer was yes. He also said he should have done the prison time as Teen Challenge was hell on Earth for him. Imagine trying to convert a stubborn unbeliever who has no interest in Christianity. Many go through the motions in order to complete the program.

Teen Challenge claims a high success rate in dealing with addictions but i am somewhat skeptical. Teen Challenge is somewhat different because it is supported by people high in power. Bush Jr. for one. It was started by David Wilkerson and is through the AOG church.

Question: where did the phrase "and all God's children said amen" come from? It doesn't seem to be in scripture...

Not that phase, but read Deuteronomy 27, where the actual phrase is recorded several times.

One example:

'Cursed is the man who makes an idol or a molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret ' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'
-Deuteronomy 27:15 (NASB)

Also see 1 Chronicles 16:36

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,From everlasting even to everlasting Then all the people said, "Amen," and praised the LORD.

Other examples are in Nehemiah 5:13, Nehemiah 8:6, and Psalm 106:48

I can't take credit for it, shema...my son-in-law came up with it. They were visiting this week...just headed for home today.

I certainly hope we can ask questions, Gralan! 'Cause I think that's pretty much all I do here...haha.

Love your little man. I think I might use him for an icon for "straw man" arguments.

I just hadn't seen anyone else playing around with them, so I had a brain hiccup and tried it.

The code was actually a little more complicated then I'd thought it would be.

Btw, just remember behind every strawman is a scarecrow, be careful with the matches.

My husband and I were in B&N yesterday morning and in the midst of meeting some people, drinking bad coffee, etc. I picked up the biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer...wow...what a testimony to the glory of God.

Maybe I should start reading some good Reformed books ? A friend from church gave me Ryle's book Holiness and it's kind of heady for me.

Do you bother discussing the errors of the Left Behind books with others ? Anyone remember A Thief In The Night ? I lived in fear after that for many years.
