. . . . .... I don't normally get the newspaper.... .... but yeah.... I do when I read it. Is that weird? My mom used to read them to see who was dying that was her same age...

I don't read them daily but my Mom does since she is a home health aide, and always likes seeing if any of her patients have died.

We don't get the paper every day either, but for some reason I end up looking at the hatched, matched and dispatched sometimes. (Births, engagements and deaths). I get sad when I know that the person isn't a believer.

At my age now I check often to see if I know anyone or the children of those who have passed. I would hate to not attend a visitation or something because I didn't know of the passing. I usually check online, as I don't get the daily newspaper, but the 2 times a week paper that I proof pages for has an obit page too so, yeah, I check for the reasons I listed.

I skim through the names in our local paper just to see if I know anyone. But, I don't read the details unless I did know them.

If I see my photo I'll read the obit.

Having grown up around a funeral home makes me interested to see who has left this world. I do not take the paper, but can read it on line every day.

I used to laugh at my mother because she always read the obits--now I am of a certain age-like old -and I read them. There are occasionally some pretty funny things written--just recently in the local paper there was one that said "He was loved by his family but he was a royal pain in the butt".

I look through them if I have a newspaper. I don't read them thoroughly unless I find one that looks interesting. Sometimes I pray for the families, especially if it was a young person.

My great-grandfather used to read them to see if any of his old buddies had passed away. But when he closed the paper, he would always make a comment to the effect of "Good ... my name's not in there yet ... must still be a good time to be alive"

Isn't it odd that people die in alphabetical order?

I read them Every day Every local paper And I have since I was YOUNGER (I'm still feeling young today) In fact, I am on the computer right now looking for information on a dear woman who passed last night. I can get annoyed by some of the descriptions. The ones that stick out are the 'witness one last time' ones. I read one that was 'Journeyed to her heavenly home where she was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and her beloved husband.' I joke that Poppa is NOT allowed to say anything like that. Although, we have joked 'finally tried sky diving - once' I have seen survived by their grown child and the child's pet. But, I feel awful when I read about some folks around here. Landed on Omaha Beach 6/6/44. Survived the Bataan Death March. Flew with this or that person on X sucessful missions. Served under this General or in these churches. So many wonderful stories that I will never hear....

I've followed in my mom's footsteps and have started reading them too. On our papers, sometimes someone will list the names of everyone in that 4-generation family left behind and I go through it to see if there's someone I might know.
