I need some advice on how to get back on track with God.
I've been a Christian for several years now. For a long time I went to church regularly, read scripture every day, prayed all the time. God and I were really close.
But the past few months have really been a trial. We've had to move to a city I don't like. Some of my goals have been put on hold because I had to go back to work. We're having a really hard time finding a good church. It just seems like everything is hard right now.
I'm not saying all this to complain, I'm just trying to provide some background. In the past month or so I've really been losing motivation to pray or study. I know it's not good and I feel terrible. The other night I reached out to God for an explanation - and He revealed that I'm basically avoiding Him because I'm angry.
How do I recover from this? I know we talk a lot about trusting God even in the bad times, but how do we get the motivation to follow through with it?

This may sound silly, but ask Him for it. Ask Him to renew your faith, to renew your motivation, and to renew your spirit.
I would also suggest going back to the beginning, find the one verse that when you read it, you are in total amazement of what He has done for you, that your only response is to get motivated again. You know what I mean? Try to remember back to when you first came to the Lord, what brought you? Was it a verse, or something someone said?
Just so you know, I believe we all go through similar things in life. We all have doubts, or fears at one time or another. That is OK. He is not afraid of our doubts, He wants to show you just how real and awesome He is.
Try these verses out
Romans 5:8
Isaiah 41:10
Jeremiah 29:11
and of course
John 3:16
read those, and see if your motivation is sparked again.

It's OK to get angry with God. Sometimes. As long as we don't overdo it.
God can take our anger. After all, He took our anger on the Cross did He not?
As you say, your problem is lack of motivation. It is said that on His way to Calvary Jesus fell to the ground three times. He was exhausted. He had been beaten, mocked, spat upon, tortured, and saw his disciples flee, one of whom even denied Him three times. That's enough to make anybody give up. Jesus could have stayed there on the ground and died on the spot.
But He got up. Three times, He got up. And continued His journey to a cruel and very painful death.
He did it for us. He did it because His Father asked Him to.
Let that be our inspiration.
Yes, we do feel tired at times. We feel like giving up. Life is not as we expected. Our prayers seem to go un-answered. We believe (wrongly) that God has abandoned us.
All these natural human emotions happen to all of us at one time or another.
But take courage friend. God is by your side, even if you don't feel it right now. Speak to Him in prayer and tell Him how you feel. Trust Him. He will not let you down.
He's never let me down. And I've been in some difficulties in my life.
So let's get up together; and move on.

You've already received some great encouragement here. So I will just thank you for your honest, truthful sharing with us. Thank you. The Lord does not want us to pretend. He wants us to be real with Him and with others. Only when we are real, full of truth about ourselves, can He and others minister to us---it is that reality, the truthfulness that opens us up to Him and His working. So bless you!
Yes, Psalm 51 says He desires truth in the innermost being. That's your being truthful about you as well as His implanting the truth within you. So my prayer for you is that your truthfulness will be followed up by His implanting more and more truth in you. Lord, give pg4HIM more of Yourself! Make pg4HIM know wisdom, and You are Wisdom, Jesus. Thank You for doing this for this one. Create in pg4HIM a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within. Restore to pg4HIM the joy of Your salvation and sustain pg4HIM with a willing spirit. And we know, Lord, that the end result will be to Your praise and glory. This one will then teach others about You and Your wonderful ways. A broken and contrite heart You will not despise, Lord. So do good to pg4HIM. Build the walls that have broken down. And then You will delight in pg4HIM's thankfulness and graditude for all You've done! Thank You, Lord!

You need a vision of who you are and can be in Christ, for a people without a vision are lost. Unfortunately, work gets in the way of what and who we want to be, nevertheless, once you have a firm vision, go for it for in Christ all things really are possible, if you but believe. Sure others will try to turn you aside and prevent you, so by all means listen to them and having carefully considered what they have said move on in Christ for the kingdom of God has been forcefully advancing since the time of John the baptist and forceful men have been laying hold of it.
